WEST LONDON Sprints & Hurdles

WEST LONDON Sprints & Hurdles

West London Sprints & Hurdles is a specialist branch of West London Track & Field, dedicated to developing and promoting performance in Sprints & Hurdles.

Our aim is to help each athlete in our care to maximise their individual potential.

We do this using an athlete development pathway which is underpinned by a collaborative, integrated coaching model, incorporating a team of professionals who are experts in their field. By working with a proven system, athletes can individually develop, with support from a professionally driven group of staff.

We are proud to not only train, but educate athletes. We know that success is achieved through each athlete developing a full understanding of their event, and the movements, skillsets and mental tools required to excel. By educating athletes, we ensure athlete ownership and continuous learning.

Our training base is at Brunel University in West London, where we currently serve 24 sprinters, hurdlers, heptathletes and winter sport athletes, representing a number of clubs across the UK.

We support the Club structure in the UK by providing centralised, professional, structured, coaching and support services for athletes. This allows athletics clubs to have a quality pool of athletes competing for them, without the worry of finding specialist coaching at their home tracks.

Squad memberships

For athletes wishing to commit to developing themselves as a Sprinter or Hurdler, we offer a limited number of squad memberships annually. We also offer memberships for athletes who wish to develop their speed for other sports, for example bobsleigh. This gives athletes the opportunity to be part of one of our squads, and join our long-term athlete development pathway.

Performance Squads

Our Bronze and Silver Performance squads offer a full training programme including track, conditioning and therapy support. Athletes wishing to fully engage in a full training regime can apply to join one of our squads, which are scaled in terms of commitment, performance standards and expectations. These squads currently include a number of athletes who have represented Great Britain and England in the last 2 years.

Development Squad

The Development Squad caters for athletes aged 12-16 years old. Athletes will learn the foundations of sprint mechanics and conditioning, preparing them to progress into the Performance Squads. The Development Squad train every Wednesday 6pm at the Brunel Indoor Athletics Centre.

If you wish to find out more, or apply to join one of our squads, please use the contact form here.
